Tell Revelop: A Church is Not a Venue for Blasphemy
For over 150 years, St John the Evangelist Church in Sydney was a place of worship, community, and faith. Built in 1868, it served the Catholic community through generations, through wars, the Great Depression, and the struggles and joys of ordinary Australian life. It was a sacred place.
Today, that same building is being used to deliberately mock the faith it was built to serve. A nightclub called Unholy Playhouse has opened inside its walls, using the imagery of the Holy Mass, the Most Holy Eucharist, Holy Water, and the Sacrament of Confession as themes for its sacrilegious entertainment. Its marketing material uses demonic symbols, and its events are designed to provoke and offend Christians.
The company that owns this building — and has the power to end this — is Revelop. They chose who to lease this building to, and they can choose to end it.
We are not asking for anything unreasonable. We are simply asking Revelop to respect the history of this building and the community it once served, and to cancel the lease that is allowing it to be used as a vehicle for religious mockery. No faith community should have to watch their most sacred symbols turned into a nightclub act. Christians deserve the same respect as everyone else.
Sign the petition and tell Revelop: respect this church and the community it served. Cancel the lease!
